INTRODUCTION
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) can successfully treat a variety of skin
conditions and has been proven to restore youth to aging skin.
Tissues and pathological substrates with strong mitotic activity
are preferentially used for photodynamic therapy. Photosensitizers
do not produce spontaneous toxicity; they must be excited by
photons to produce cytotoxic free radicals, such as singlet oxygen
and superoxide free radicals. These free radicals selectively
destroy tumor cells with strong mitotic activity.
